(July 2008) -
Construction projects underway at Woodside,
Lapeer West High School, Cramton campus and the
Administration and Services Center as well as
technology and furniture upgrades at all the
District’s schools promise to impact nearly
every Lapeer Community Schools student in the
fall.
“Most students in
the District will have their hands on something
new in the fall thanks to work done over the
summer and financed by the 2007 bond,” said
Superintendent Debbie Thompson.
Major site work and
the beginning of new building construction at
Woodside began in June after a May 20 ground
breaking. At the end of July the Woodside
construction was ahead of schedule for a
September 2009 completion of the new junior high
school campus at the site.
Also in July,
construction on a gym at Cramton and major
parking lot reconstruction were well underway.
Parking lot work was also ongoing at Lapeer West
High School and the Administration and Services
Center.
Board action in June
and July approving major technology purchases,
will result in 700 new desk top and 32 laptop
computers, network connections, video
presentation systems, interactive white boards,
document cameras and other technology
improvements in all District media centers by
fall.
Planning for the
next construction phase - the reconstruction of
the current Zemmer Junior High School into a
grade 6-8 middle school - is also proceeding. A
committee made up of parents, staff and
administrators has met to develop architectural
plans for the building.
Additional committee
meetings are planned through the year to work on
transition issues for the first group of sixth,
seventh and eighth graders who will begin
classes in the two new middle schools in June
2010. |
